The team at B-Side Guys recently published this thoughtful review of “Just Fine” that I wanted to share with you all. Their insights captured the essence of what I was trying to convey through the music, and I’m grateful for their perspective. Below are some highlights from their review along with my own reflections on creating this deeply personal track.
From B-Side Guys’ Review
J-Hei’s “Just Fine” explores the contrast between public personas and private struggles, combining intimate confession with social commentary on mental health and performative wellness in indie rock form.
Masks eventually crack under pressure. This truth sits at the center of J-Hei’s “Just Fine,” a track that excavates the performance of wellness with unflinching precision. The indie rock composition shifts between quiet confessional moments and expansive instrumental sections that mirror the internal struggle between public composure and private turmoil.

My Thoughts
When I wrote “Just Fine”, I was struggling to find a proper doctor to treat me for my anxiety and depression. All my life, I’d seen the signs and pulled it together just to be told at 18 that I was just fine. It hurt me to be overlooked like that. I felt like I was being told it’s okay to seek out help when you need it but at the same time make sure you need it. The kind of intervention I needed at the time was not one I would take with anyone but myself… and a few hospitals along the way.
Thank you for listening, not just to the music, but to what lies beneath it.
- J-HE!
